In "The Victoria Cross," Herbert Marshall stars as a public school housemaster whose method of coping with post-war trauma leaves him vulnerable to a blackmailing student.
Frances Ord and Giles Bateman have been caught cheating on their exams, and now they are being individually interviewed by their housemaster, Mr. Vale. He doesn't believe Ord is telling him the truth about the incident. So, Mr. Vale then interviews Bateman, who doesn't deny cheating.
Mr. Vale threatens to take the matter to the headmaster, but Bateman counters by threatening to tell the headmaster about Mr. Vale's visits to Maggie Splane in the village. He is certain that the headmaster would be more interested in that!
Mr. Vale lets the matter go, because he has no choice. He is afraid of the boy, and believes that Frances Ord is being blackmailed as well.
Will this school bully get his come-uppance? Or, will it be more serious than that.
