In "Heart's Desire," an unhappy bank messenger steals a large sum of money with the hope that wealth will bring him everything he always wanted.
As the episode opens, it is night and man named Henry Doyle walks along the New York City harbor. An overdressed woman named Lucille comes up to him and asks if he is in trouble. Henry decides to tell her his story because it just might help...
Henry grew up in poverty but had always had an eye on the future. He knew that someday things would change. When he was nineteen he went to work at the bank...and twenty years later his employer gave him a gold watch for his exemplary service. Twenty years gone? Henry couldn't bear that half of his life was spent, and his circumstances had not changed. So, he decided to steal his way into a better life while he still had a chance.
Afterward, Henry didn't exactly get what he wanted...
"Heart's Desire" was written by Robert L. Richards based on a story by Arthur Laurents. William Spier produced and directed. Lloyd Nolan starred. Also appearing were William Johnstone, John McIntire, and Joseph Kearns. This episode aired on March 22, 1945.
