In "Rakovsky's Rubles" a man comes up with a plan to escape poverty by stealing a fortune from his boss and then waiting out the required jail term.
The episode opens in "old Russia" as Ivan Ivanovich and Anna Petrovna huddle together in their cold apartment. Ivan feels that their situation is hopeless, but Anna tells him he is wrong to feel that way. She has faith in his abilities and knows that their situation will improve.
Ivan doesn't feel that way...until he gets an idea. Anna works for a wealthy prince, and if Ivan were to also get a position in the household, he would have access to riches.
That is exactly what happens. Ivan steals a fortune and hides it away in a safe deposit box while he goes to jail for twenty years.
The last part of his plan involves cooperation from Anna, but when he is released from the Siberian salt mines after twenty years, she isn't feeling helpful...
