In the "Devil's Saint," a man has to prove his love by spending a night in a mysterious bedroom that kills its guests.
The story opens in Paris in 1927 at a fancy dress ball in the opera house. Lord Edward and Illona are enjoying themselves--until her uncle arrives. It is then that Lord Edward tells her uncle, Count Stefan Kohari, that they want to get married. The problem is that Edward and Illona have only known each other four days. Count Stefan Kohari isn't pleased. So, in order to "cure" Edward of this infatuation, Count Stephan invites Lord Edward to his chateau. The trick is that he has to stay in the "Tapestry Room."
Illona begs him not to do it. Everyone who sleeps in that room dies! Will Lord Edward survive a night in the room, or will he too, die?
"The Devil's Saint" was written by John Dickson Carr. William Spier produced, John Dietz directed and Bernard Herrmann composed the music. Peter Lorre starred as Count Stefan. This episode aired on January 19, 1943.
Oohhh I loved this episode when I first heard it. But for the longest time I couldn't remember what the name of the episode or even which show (lights out, inner sanctum, suspense?) it was from. So thanks for covering it and helping me remember so I can listen again!

This is one of the most creepiest and shocking episodes I ever heard thanks of course to the sinister performance of Peter Lorre he was absoultely perfect as the sinister Count Kohari. The solution to the deadly Tapestry room was intriguing and simple but when it came to the villian's identity I was even more surprised. Again great John Dickson Carr mystery radio play and one of Lorre's best performances.
