In "The Murderess," Cathy Lewis gives an interesting performance in a sad, strange story about a woman tormented by her guilty conscience.
As the episode opens, Marion awakes to a day that she knows will be difficult. The narrator gives us the details of Marion's morning routine, and how she tries to keep herself busy. Marion must keep herself occupied at all times today. Yet, she knows she can't keep her thoughts entirely under control...
At the breakfast table, she opens the newspaper. The news is about the upcoming execution of Margaret Bailey, who was sentenced to death for the murder of her husband. Marion is overcome and puts the newspaper down. Why did she read about it? That won't help.
Then, her cleaning-woman Laura arrives and she sees the newspaper. Laura doesn't believe the convicted woman did it. She thinks another woman committed the crime, and that woman is out there...somewhere. Meanwhile, the convicted woman has less than twelve hours to live.
Is Marion the other woman? Will she give herself up in time?
