In "Escape to Death," a doctor in Communist Hungary is forced to defect in order to assassinate an escaped politician.
As the episode opens, Dr. Gerner is having a brandy with the Hungarian deputy premier and a Russian commander. He is flattered by their attention, but then they come to the real reason for their interest in him. His devotion to Hungary is well known, and they have chosen him for an extremely dangerous mission.
They want him to escape to the West, and if his mission is successful, return to Hungary. What do they want him to do? Find former politician Karina Zanova, who was once his patient, and then kill her. It is imperative to the Hungarian government that she be stopped before she can tell her story in the West.
Theirs is an offer that can not be refused without injury to himself and his family. But, if he succeeds in his mission, he will earn the party's undying gratitude.
Will he succeed?
