In "The Next Murder," a man takes pity on a stranger and then ends up in jail for murder.
As the episode opens, two men meet at a lunch counter and start chatting. The topic turns to the subject of the recent murder in Springdale. Then, one of the men leaves...but they run into each other again outside.
John Kotter has no place to stay, so Fred Spong offers to share the room he rents. He sneaks his new friend past the clerk and up into his room, but soon regrets his generosity. John is obsessed with murder, particulary the Springdale murder.
Fred plans to ditch his new friend during the night and leave town, but before he does...
"The Next Murder" was written by Joseph Cochran and produced/directed by Fred Hendrickson. Joseph Julian and Lawson Zerbe star. Also appearing were Elizabeth Lawrence, Reynold Osborne, and William Redfield. This episode aired on July 22, 1962.
